The northern most Thailand
Early in the morning we set off for touring northern Thailand. That meant going from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai and then further north. That day trip took 13 hours in a relatively heavy traffic and we covered 600 km Fortunately we had a very good, responsible driver. He drove very fast, anyway! The roads in this country have a good surface, though.
Along the way, we stopped at hot springs, and again we were offered to boil eggs.
Next a temple called the White Temple. Its history is short, because it is less than 20 years old, but it’s story is rich in content. We are not going to write it all here: that what the Wikipedia is for: White Temple in Chiang Rai .
We will just say that the artist - a great Thai painter – launched himself onto a creation that is to go on for 90 years! He himself - Ajarm Cherlemchai – looks after it every day and devotes all the strength and financial resources for the project whose goal is to build a DIFFERENT Buddhist temple. He has already created a wonder, and There is more to come...
The Golden Triangle is a place in the world where countries meet on the Mekong River: Myanmar (Burma ), Thailand, Laos, and No Man’s Land. This is where golden business took place connected with opium, i.e. the poppy cultivation Today, this industry is officially not working , but in each of these countries, by the Mekong, there is built a huge casino. So the gold business is booming ...
We toured the place by boat, and we stayed in Laos for 30 minutes to sip the moonshine of theirs (we should congratulate them on the success), watch the reptiles in bottles filled with whisky type alcohol and bought some trinkets (sic!) as souvenirs.
For a moment we drove up to northern most point of Thailand, where it borders with Burma. There we couldn’t do much without a visa, and ours has already expired.
