Stefan Jaracz Theatre in Olsztyn
On Friday evening we go to a recommended performance at the Jaracz Theatre.
Stefan Jaracz Theatre in Olsztyn
"Stefan Jaracz Theatre in Olsztyn - a local government cultural institution of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship with its seat in Olsztyn, co-run by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage."
The theatre has 4 stages: Large, Chamber, Margines and Sewruka (at the Acting School)."
Our performance on the Margines stage is: Bad Education.
At the beginning we get a warning:
IMPORTANT! The play "Bad Education" is intended for adult viewers only.
"In accordance with the intentions of the creators, the performance touches on the functioning of the Catholic Church in Poland: its finances, moral issues, and the sexuality of clergy. The performance contains scenes that are a documentary reconstruction of selected events and scandals from the current life of the Catholic Church in Poland, including scenes of a sexual nature. (…)"
On the Theatre's website:
"This is a performance about needs. About the need for spirituality and how we realize it today. About the need for love and closeness, which often contradict the teachings of the church hierarchy. About the need to tell the truth and see reality as it is, without fear and without taboos. Finally - about the enormous need for change.
(...)
"Based on documentary materials, the creators look at the Church "from the sacristy" to tell something broader. They invite us to a discussion about faith, love and hope. They do not give up their sense of humor, distance, and camp* elements."
*Camp – a stylistic convention that assigns value to certain things because they are in bad taste, or because of their ironic message.
Tomorrow to be continued about the spectacle and our impressions.
