On Piotrkowska Street

When you are in Rome, you have to see the Pope. But you may not succeed…

When you are in Łódź, you have to go to Piotrkowska Street. And you will always succeed.

Unless it is cold and it is raining lightly. Like today.

Jan Sztaudynger wrote an epigram:

The greatest concern of every Łódź resident is to squeeze everything into Piotrkowska Street.

It is different today, because the whole of Łódź is developing beautifully and has many wonderful shopping, dining and entertainment centers.

From the Wikipedia:

"Piotrkowska Street - the representative street of Łódź, one of the longest shopping streets on the continent, measuring about 4.2 km, running longitudinally in a straight line. (...)

From the very beginning, this street was the central axis around which the city expanded, and its development spontaneously gave its current shape to its center. Initially, the street was mainly a communication route, but over time it turned into a "city's calling card", a center of entertainment and trade, where the entire life of the growing industrial agglomeration was concentrated. The street fell into serious decline after World War II. After 1990, it was renovated and turned into a kind of promenade, which, to a large extent, plays a role similar to the old town square in other cities. The buildings, urban planning, institutions, restaurants, clubs and pubs located near this street create its special atmosphere with a cult character, reaching beyond Łódź. (...)"

We walked the entire street, looking at the facades of impressive tenement houses, looking into the courtyards of outbuildings and admiring numerous murals.

There is a monument to Tadeusz Kościuszko on Wolności Square. On the pedestal there is a relief of Kościuszko shaking hands with President Washington.\

Is Duda counting on a similar bas-relief with Trump?

On a cold, sunnyless Friday morning, Piotrkowska was not very busy, thus it was easier to take pictures.

Here are a few of them:
