Szczecin culturally and sentimentally

The Opera at the Castle in Szczecin organized a concert to mark the end of the celebrations of the Year of Jacek Nieżychowski - the creator of the Szczecin Operetta, which gave birth to the Musical Theatre and, in time, the Opera at the Castle.

Here is an entry on the theatre's website:

"On Saturday and Sunday, January 27, the Opera at the Castle in Szczecin invites you to the concert "Nieżychowski" directed by Adam Opatowicz, under the musical direction of Kuba Wnuk. The concert will be hosted by Artur Andrus.

On Monday, January 29, at 12:00, at the grave of Jacek Nieżychowski, the 100th anniversary of the artist's birth will be celebrated at the Central Cemetery in Szczecin (section 47B, row 20, grave number 1, entrance through gate 3). Together with the Jubilarian's family, we will sing the aria "Wielka sława to żart" from J. Strauss' operetta "The Gypsy Baron". Everyone will receive a card with the lyrics.

Concert description:

Jacek Nieżychowski – the most colourful of the colourful figures of Szczecin culture and Szczecin in general – would celebrate his centenary in 2024. Remembered as the creator of the Szczecin Operetta, which gave birth to the Musical Theatre, and eventually to the Opera at the Castle; the originator and organiser of the Young Talents Festival from 1962-1963 – the first song festival in Poland, which introduced big beat and twist to Polish stages; a cabaret artist recognisable throughout the country as a member of the Silna Grupa pod Wezwaniem, his entire colourful life was connected with the stage and entertainment, which will be expressed in a unique Jubilee Concert prepared by the Opera at the Castle and directed by Adam Opatowicz, on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the birth of this extraordinary Szczecin resident. As colourful and rich in surprises as the biography of Jacek Nieżychowski. On the stage of the Opera at the Castle, you will be able to hear the Jubilarian's favorite arias and songs - remembered from operettas, with which musical Szczecin began, as well as those... sung by him while shaving. We will also hear the premiere of new versions of great opera hits prepared especially with the Jubilarian in mind. There will be hits from the Young Talents Festival and cabaret stage, as well as the humor for which Jacek Nieżychowski was so famous. Among the performers are the best soloists, orchestra and dancers of the Opera at the Castle and favorite actors of the Polish Theater in Szczecin. As the host and special guest of the evening, the whole thing will be hosted by Artur Andrus."

These were two hours of excellent entertainment, wittily and culturally led by three masters of the stage: Artur Andrus, Adam Opatowicz and Michał Janicki.

For the "old" residents of Szczecin, it was an evening of sentimental return to the 60s and 70s.

All photos of the evening's hero and fragments of the performance come from the website of the Opera at the Castle in Szczecin.
